Stefanie T, Peter D, and Sheila G of Austin FC independent supporters group Los Verdes know what it means to be part of a community. Cheering in the stands is a crucial role of the group, but it’s far from their only mission. From hosting events where Austin residents can do their laundry free of charge to spearheading blanket drives to leading a large-scale community art project, the club is making a meaningful impact on their city — a goal Los Verdes and UFCU have in common. 

Their slogan, “Y’all Means All,” speaks to Los Verdes’ key tenets of inclusivity and authenticity. “We want everybody to be themselves in our organization. We want to always use our voice and our platform for good,” Stefanie asserts. Whatever the community needs, Los Verdes wants to provide. Now with 2,000 members and counting, Los Verdes has hit its stride, thanks in part to their relationship with UFCU. 

“What drew me to Los Verdes was not just being a cheerleader for the team, but also the community involvement. I really felt like there was an opportunity to do something with other people and help the community. We expected we might get a couple of hundred people to join our organization. Today, we're over 2,000. It’s been amazing to watch the growth and what we've been able to reach out and do for other organizations, other nonprofits, as well as people that just need help around town. 

[Our growth] gave us a tremendous amount of flexibility in terms of our income that we did not anticipate. It was, ‘what are we going to do with this money?’ Then we have the blessing to be able to reach out to other nonprofits and help them throughout their missions. 

We want to continue elevating voices. We want to continue doing whatever we can to promote soccer, promote that ‘Y'all means all’ mentality and make it viral, infectious, so that we're bettering our place here in the community, but also doing what we can to better Austin.”
