New Prosper Center Empowering More Central Texans to Achieve Financial Stability
Austin, TEXAS, February 25, 2022 — U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett joined Council Member Jose “Chito” Vela, Foundation Communities Executive Director Walter Moreau, UFCU CEO Tony Budet, and additional community leaders to celebrate Foundation Communities’ newest and largest Prosper Center location with a press conference and ribbon cutting.
The new Prosper Center—made possible by generous support from UFCU—allows Foundation Communities to extend its financial services further into the community, including free tax preparation. Foundation Communities is accepting appointments now, helping hundreds of neighbors per week to file their taxes for free at the new Prosper Center South.
The new 10,000+ square foot Prosper Center offers free financial services to Austin residents, including health insurance enrollment, college financial aid assistance, one-on-one financial coaching, and—just in time for the 2022 tax season—tax filing preparation, including the expanded Child Tax Credit and other credits. Now through April 18, individuals and families can drop off their taxes or schedule an in-person appointment for free tax preparation seven days a week.
“Each year Foundation Communities prepares 20,000 tax returns for working families at no cost to them, and the new Prosper Center–South will allow us to serve even more in our community,” said Walter Moreau, Foundation Communities Executive Director. “We are dedicated to empowering our neighbors—no matter where they are in their journey—to achieve financial stability and ultimately prosper. And, thanks to the generous support of UFCU, we are now able to help more of our neighbors.”
UFCU, Austin’s largest Member-owned financial institution, donated $1 million to Foundation Communities in support of the new Prosper Center–South location. The generous donation allows Foundation Communities to provide financial services to and strengthen the financial health of even more Central Texans.
"When every person has the tools and guidance they need to achieve their financial goals and dreams, it strengthens our community’s financial health and brings greater prosperity and security for all,” said Tony Budet, UFCU CEO. “We're honored to help Foundation Communities provide their financial programs to our neighbors because when more of us do well, it contributes to all of us doing better.”
