UFCU’s longest tenured employee reaches 40 year milestone

Austin, TEXAS, June 16, 2016 – University Federal Credit Union (UFCU) is pleased to recognize employee Laurie Thomas for 40 years of service. Laurie began her career with UFCU on June 21, 1976, working in all areas of the organization from lending to organizational development. She is the first UFCU employee to reach such a milestone.

“People helping people” is the foundation for the relationships Laurie establishes in working with employees and members. As an Organizational Development representative, Laurie is among the first to greet new employees, warmly welcoming them to the UFCU family. In telling new team members they have joined a great organization, she shares when she was a new employee, everyone could sit around one small table. Employees now number over 600.

Executives and coworkers alike comment on Laurie’s ability to grow and change in her role as UFCU has grown and changed. While in her early years, processes were solely paper-based, Laurie now supports the organization through digital information sharing through internal platforms.

Laurie is known in larger credit union circles as a long-time active member of the Austin Chapter of Credit Unions, working to earn the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award for the Chapter on more than one occasion.

As one senior manager commented, “her contributions to UFCU values and who we are today cannot be measured by a spreadsheet, but can only be measured by the heart, spirit and values of University Federal Credit Union.”
